Mon 8/31/09

Burpees Tony Budding (Media Director for CrossFit HQ) said CrossFit can be an “asshole barrier,” where the program creates a community that weeds out weak people who aren’t willing to work for success. Coach Glassman agreed. “So much of repugnant behavior is about trying to get something for nothing, and the CrossFitters inherently don’t believe that it’s possible.”

Today’s WOD In The Park:

“Death by Kettlebell Snatch”

With a continuously running clock do one Kettlebell Snatch the first minute, two Kettlebell Snatches the second minute, three Kettlebell Snatches the third minute… continuing as long as you are able.

Men – 53 lbs.
Women – 35 lbs.

WOD Explanation This was taken a year or so ago at CrossFit Marina in Huntington Beach, CA by my daughter Piper while I was getting ready to do some insane WOD. Great times, great folks, and great CrossFitters! I love visiting Steve and Denise there!

  • 30 Handstand push-ups
  • 40 Pull-ups
  • 50 Kettlebell swings (53/35)
  • 60 Sit-ups
  • 70 Burpees

[SinglePic not found]One day in the park we came across an abandoned baby robin. We took it home, fed it, kept it warm, and brought it with us to all our park workouts. Now, after doing CrossFit for a few months, our baby robin has turned into one badass three-on one-off bird. One handy thing though – according to the bird, worms fall under “Paleo”.

[SinglePic not found]Inside the bag that Isaac is pulverizing in this picture is the athlete from that day’s class who decided that he didn’t need to bring his arms to full lockout at the top of his thrusters. Ok not really, but I bet that would be a great way to persuade people that full range of motion is better for your health!

[SinglePic not found]It’s supposed to be pretty rainy and maybe even thunderstormy today, but I’ll be at the park all the same. If a little rain doesn’t scare you, come on out. If you’re afraid of being struck by lightning perhaps because did something horrible and you deserve it, then you should probably stay home. Or at least do your workout no closer than about 50′ away from me.

wod-in-the-park-011 They say when the only tool you have is a hammer, your problems all begin to look like nails. I would say that when the only tools you have are selectorized weight machines, you end up with a similar issue. CrossFit: expand your toolbox.

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 reps of:

  • Knees to elbows
  • Ring Dips
  • Burpees

Mon 8/17/09 – Fitness magazines

badsquat I love fitness magazines. They teach such great things to people. Like how to squat “as low as you can” (which is apparently not even low enough to sit on a toilet), and that if you want to get as big and strong as this guy, you should squat with weights the size of cheerios. Yeah…um…I’ll stick with CrossFit.

Today’s WOD In The Park:

4 rounds

  • 20 Kettlebell Swings
  • 15 Pullups
  • 10 Burpees
