The On-Ramp
Walking into a CrossFit class with little to no experience with the concepts and movements involved would be about as smart as giving your car keys to a 14 year-old and telling them to drive somewhere as fast as they possibly can. (Actually, I think that kid passed me on 270 yesterday…) So rather than throw you into the mix right away and hope you don’t get too frustrated, too confused or too badly injured, we have the On-Ramp to bring you up to speed.
The On-Ramp is a 9-session course that meets three times each week to prepare you to enter our ongoing group classes. The emphasis of the On-Ramp is on skill development and exposure to our basic movements, as well as to familiarize you with the concepts and terminology used in CrossFit. You will be hammered on technique throughout the program (and it continues in the regular CrossFit classes) to ensure your safety and your success as you progress.
Here’s what you need to know:
- You will learn the proper technique and mechanics for each movement before intensity is introduced.
- The movements will start out simple and then progressively get more complex.
- It’s important to attend each of the 9 classes in the course as the movements build on one another in each class.
- Each class will end with a workout based on movements from that class or previous classes. These workouts will become progressively more challenging as the course progresses.
- The difficulty of the workouts is ultimately up to you – the degree to which you push yourself will determine how much suffering you feel. Remember that one of the primary purposes of this course is to ramp you up to the level of intensity and output that is inherent in CrossFit.
